A geographically local community of Linux and open source enthusiasts
is a valuable thing even disregarding regular face-to-face meetings:

o Hardware trades too small for a larger community but practical
for a local one can be arranged via the mailing list.

o The locality and smallness of the group encourages discussion of
matters which might be deemed too frivolous on a larger, more
     formal group.

o The mailing list can be a forum for discussing geographically
local events such as the recent Club Fair at Caltech.

It would be unfortunate if lack of agenda for monthly meetings were to
cause or allow the community to wither. A refocusing of the charter
of the group, making the mailing list its central feature rather than
the regular monthly meetings, might be a good move.
