72 pin memory had a fairly strict configuration scheme, if i remember
right. especially the dec alphas. different memory modules with the
same part number and mfg model number might not work.

if i remember right, if you have 4 banks and are using ECC they must
all be ECC. i am not sure about fast page memory, but i think this is
true also. all 4 would have to be fast page.

for a while mfgs were making two different parity chips. one was true
parity and the other was like an emulated parity, not a true parity.
i forget the name for them, but if the board is set for true parity,
then the emulated will probably not work.

some motherboards required that simms be installed in certain banks
according to size. ie, bank 0 and 1 can accept 32MB while bank 2 and
3 might be able to accept 16MB. best to find a motherboard manual
online.

also, on each simm there is a long number followed by a dash and the
number 60 or 70. (sun had 50 also i think). this is the speed of the
memory in nanoseconds (?). i would guess this could trip the memory
to not work. if this is the case, put the higher speed (60ns) in the
second bank. maybe it will default to 70ns.

good luck
jeff
