[SGVLUG] Why shouldn't the Internet be used for confidential communication?

Some years back, Matti asked during a meeting why people don't use PGP,
and tallied people's responses on the blackboard.  One of the responses
was to the effect that the Internet shouldn't be used for confidential
communication.  Can someone please explain this?
