Hi,

Ok - this was the systems I've mentioned
at the meeting... the ones which now
have made one of my associates into a
linux hater! (at least on the desktop)

setup:

ASUS MB, P5LD2
Intel P4, Intel 945G chipset (lga775 socket)

Originally we had a SATA Harddrive installed,
but the linux we tried didn't see it..
(FC3 and FC4).

So we installed a PATA harddrive (i.e. old style
ATA).

Linux didnt see the DVD burner.. so we used an
external DVD (usb).

After patching get the following on boot:

Red Hat nash version 4.1.18.1
Reading all physical volumes...
no volume groups found.. (repeat 3x)

mount: error 6 mounting ext3
mount: error 2 mounting
switchroot: mount failed: 2
umount /initrd/dev failed: 2
kernel panic -not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

OK - now we have 2 systems we attempted
to do this with, so I have doubts that
it is bad hardware...

anyone else heard of or seen this??

thanks
matti
