[SGVLUG] Writing CD's -- what media do you recommend?

I have a Sony DRU800A and I haven't had any problems with Memorex DVD-Rs or
CD-Rs from Fry's. I've only used one or two other brands. Mine has performed
reasonably well so far. I've probably burned about 75 DVDs so far. The only
thing I can add is that I've had CD Writers flake unexpectedly, that's
happened a few times. One day it works and the next it doesn't. I live in La
Crescenta, if you want to borrow mine to test, send me a note.

So, am I just banging my head against the wall, or is it that the sony drive

is "very picky" about CD media?  If so, what brand/style/etc. do you 
recommend or have had success with in the past?  [note: the memorex's work 
just fine in my laptop's drive, but this writes at 4x, so it's taking a
while
